The death of 27-year-old Yasumati Sharma, posted as gynae-coordinator at Indus Hospital, came as a shock to her neighbours in Phase 1.
The residents came to know about her death only when cops visited her flat at around 6pm. They found it difficult to accept the fact that a woman who was so friendly and caring could end her life.
Debunking the suicide theory, one of the residents, Salinder Kaur, who was in tears, said Yasumati was very jovial and used to interact with women on the street while returning from duty.
Another woman of the locality said Yasumati was very daring and full of life. She said she could not have taken such a step.
A man, requesting anonymity, recalled his interaction with Yasumati. He said she used to wish him while parking her scooter every day. The man also urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.
Talking to HT, victim’s mother, Bhavna Sharma, said her daughter was a daring girl and used to stay alone while studying in Bangalore. She said the police should register a case of murder and conduct a thorough investigation to find the culprits.

Yasumati’s father, Mohardwaj Shastri, who came to the city in the evening, said being a priest, it was very difficult for him to raise three children. He said he never discouraged Yasumati and spent a huge amount of money on her studies.

“She stayed in Bangalore alone during her studies and I cannot believe that she could commit suicide. There must be some foul play in her daughter’s death,” he added.
