Biography of Veer Savarkar will be taught in government schools in Madhya Pradesh, state school education minister Inder Singh Parmar said on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons in Bhopal, Parmar said Veer Savarkar was one of the greatest revolutionary leaders in India who was sentenced to life imprisonment two times.
“He became the first writer of the freedom movement and called the movement of 1857 as freedom struggle. He had an unprecedented contribution to India’s independence, so he deserves the respect,” said Parmar.
The minister further attacked the Congress party saying, “Unfortunately, the Congress governments in this country did not give any place to the great revolutionary leaders of India in history pages. Foreign invaders were written as ‘great’ and patriots were ‘forgotten’. In 2018, when the Congress government was formed for some time, Veer Savarkar’s books were distributed in a school. The people of Congress do not want to inform children about the great revolutionaries of our country.”

{{/usCountry}}Earlier, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced to include the holy book Gita, revolutionaries like Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru in the school syllabus.
Requesting anonymity, school education department officials said the biography of all revolutionaries and other great people will be taught separately as a moral science.
“We are following NCERT books so there is no chance of changing the syllabus but the biographies and deeds of all the great people will be taught separately as moral science,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the opposition has called it an insult to freedom fighters.
Slamming the MP government’s decision, KK Mishra, spokesperson, MP Congress Committee, said that teaching Savarkar is an insult to the brave martyrs because Savarkar wrote an apology to the British for being released from jail, it is well known.
