7th cheetah released into wild in MP’s Kuno

“Neerva, a three-and-a-half-year old female cheetah from South Africa, was released into the wild from a larger enclosure at the KNP late on Sunday,” said KNP field director Uttam Kumar Sharma.

In new policy, MP plans cow sanctuaries in forests

Madhya Pradesh plans to develop 10 cow sanctuaries on forest land, accommodating over 50,000 cows, as part of a new initiative for cow welfare in the state. The move is likely aimed at the upcoming elections. The government also plans to increase the budget for cow fodder and develop products such as cow-dung paint, cow urine phenyl and compressed natural gas. The state has 850,000 stray cattle, of which nearly 350,000 are in cow shelters. The government aims to lodge all stray cows in the shelters and has issued a toll-free number for the treatment of animals in emergency situations.

3rd cheetah dies in Kuno Park

The two-year-old cheetah, Daksha, was found severely injured in her enclosure around 10.45am on Tuesday, and a team of veterinarians were treating her, a statement from the forest department said.

Tiger from Ranthambore enters Kuno; officials say no threat to cheetahs but monitoring closely

A tiger from Ranthambore Reserve has entered Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, India, where three types of big cats now reside. The tiger had been attempting to make a home near the Chambal River in Sheopur district since November 2022. Half a dozen tigers from Ranthambore have entered Kuno at different times in the past eight years, but none have made it their home. The park has three cheetahs in the wild and 19 in an enclosure. The government of India started the National Cheetah Translocation Project to reintroduce cheetahs to the country.
