A man was shot in the arm after a brawl during a birthday celebration turned violent near the old Kabaddi ground in Bhagomajra village on Wednesday.

Acting swiftly, a police team led by inspector Simarjit Singh, SHO of Sohana police station, arrested four accused, including Ritinder Singh, Savage Khan, Jobanpreet Singh and Hardik Adlakha. Police also recovered a Maruti Suzuki Swift car allegedly used in the crime.

The complainant, Anuj Sharma, an associate of the victim, told police that a scuffle occurred during the birthday party of Ritinder’s friend Harjot at a flat at a residential complex in Mohali’s Sector 115 around four days ago.

During the gathering, an altercation reportedly broke out after a youth from Panchkula allegedly struck Savage Khan on the head with a glass, triggering tensions between the groups.

The altercation escalated on April 1 when the group gathered near the old Kabaddi ground in Bhagomajra village.

On Anuj’s complaint, a case was registered against Ritinder, Savage, Jobanpreet and Hardik, along with 7-8 unidentified persons, under Sections 109, 115 (2), 191 (3), 190 of the BNS and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act.

SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the arrested accused were being interrogated to ascertain the role of other suspects and to recover the weapon used in the incident. Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
