CIA nabs mastermind behind Charkhi Dadri shooting that hurt seven people

Police said the accused, identified as Amardeep alias Pankaj, a resident of Sahuwas village, was arrested following an encounter with the police

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team of the Charkhi Dadri police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the alleged key conspirator behind the August 6 firing outside the city police station and Charkhi Dadri court.

The incident injured seven people who had come for a court hearing. Police said the accused, identified as Amardeep alias Pankaj, a resident of Sahuwas village, was arrested following an encounter with the police. He was also hurt after sustaining bullet wounds in both legs.

Police said Pankaj is the kingpin behind the August 6 shooting and an active member of the Sahuwas gang. According to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Captain Singh, a police team intercepted Amardeep during an operation, leading to an exchange of fire between the accused and CIA personnel. During the encounter, police retaliated after the accused allegedly opened fire, hitting him in both legs.

“Amardeep was subsequently overpowered by the police and rushed to the civil hospital for treatment. An automatic Turkish-made pistol along with two magazines was recovered from the accused. The CIA team also seized 31 live cartridges, four empty shells and a Bolero car without number plate from the spot,” the DSP said.

The police said the August 6 firing was allegedly linked to an old rivalry between the Sahuwas gang and the Pradeep Kasni gang. Investigators are now questioning Amardeep to establish the sequence of events and identify other persons involved in the firing and the wider gang rivalry.
