Normal functioning in 10 schools across eight 8 panchayats of Rajouri district resumed following an abrupt break on Monday after two rabies infected dogs went on a biting spree, said officials on Wednesday.
Around a dozen people, all adults, were bitten by the two dogs on Monday that triggered panic and prompted the district administration to close around 10 schools in eight panchayats.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Kotranka, Dil Mir Choudhary said, “There were two dogs, who were infected by rabies. They were disposed off on Monday and all the schools have resumed their normal functioning. Everything is normal now as flag marches and rehearsals for ID celebrations are on”.
“Schools were shut for a day on Monday. The situation had demanded shutting 10 schools in 8 panchayats as a precautionary measure. The rabies infected dogs had bitten around 12 people, all adults on Sunday and Monday and that’s why we had to come out with such an order,” he added.
The ADC informed that anti-rabies vaccines were given to the 12 victims.

Following the incidents, police and CRPF personnel were deployed in the affected areas along with an executive magistrate and Village Defence Guards (VDGs).
The teams were tasked with assisting efforts to locate and capture the stray dogs and maintain security in the area.
The administration’s decision to close the schools was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff while efforts were underway to deal with the stray dog menace.
