Heavy rains coupled with high velocity squalls triggered flash floods in Bhaderwah town of Doda district on Thursday and landslides on a key road in Samba district on Friday, said officials.

Heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds and thunderstorms lashed Bhaderwah town on Thursday evening, said officials. He said that the rainfall inundated Bhaderwah town and caused waterlogging besides damage to a house.

Flash-floods also inundated the Bhaderwah market area. A rooftop of a residential house collapsed in Thanala village following the heavy rainfall. The house belonged to a labourer Shabbir Ahmed Wani. His family had a narrow escape.

The gusty winds also disrupted electricity supply in several parts of Bhaderwah. However, the power development department immediately pressed its men into service to repair the damaged lines. On Friday morning, heavy rains triggered a landslide on Samba-Mansar road that leads to Udhampur and as a result several passengers were left stranded.
