Jamaat-e-Islami’s properties worth over ₹90 crore sealed in J&K’s Anantnag

Properties/structures belonging to banned outfit Jamaat-e-Islami worth more than ₹90 crore at 11 locations have been barred and entry and usage has been prohibited, says Jammu and Kashmir state investigation agency

The Jammu and Kashmir state investigation agency (SIA) on Saturday conducted fresh raids at 11 places in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and sealed properties worth ₹90 crore belonging to banned outfit Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

SIA in a statement said, “To choke the availability of funds for secessionist activities and dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements and terror networks hostile to India’s sovereignty, properties belonging or held by banned JeI have been notified by the Anantnag district magistrate in exercise of powers conferred by Section 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and notification number 14017/7/2019 of the Union ministry of home affairs dated February 28, 2019.”

“Properties/structures at 11 locations worth more than ₹90 crore have been barred and entry and usage has been prohibited,” it added.

Among the properties are a residential house in Bijbehara, an orchard in Danjipora, a shopping complex in Arwani, a commercial-cum-residential structure in Jablipora, a two-storey residential house in East Mattan, a piece of land, seven under-construction shops and four rooms in Viddy Srigufwara village and a non-functional building in Hakoora village.

The SIA has identified as many as 188 JeI properties across J&K which will be notified during the further course of action, the statement added.

The central government had in 2019 banned the outfit for five years for its anti-national activities.
