Ahead of the festive season, the food safety team of the local health department conducted a checking drive across the district, collecting 21 samples on Thursday.

Several establishments in Khanna, Samrala, Jandiala, Gattani, Chandigarh Road, Kohara and other areas were inspected, from where 18 samples of chilli and spices, two cake samples and one sample of besan barfi were collected for testing.
Besides, a cake sample was collected on the basis of a complaint received from Saloti village. Another besan barfi sample was taken from Dandi Swami Road, officials said. They added that after the laboratory reports are received, if any violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, or the rules and regulations framed thereunder, is found, legal action will be initiated against the outlet.
District health officer Sandeep Singh urged food business operators to strictly follow the hygiene and sanitation practices prescribed by the FSSAI.
