Ludhiana: Family attacked over sewerage dispute, sarpanch, 32 booked

The Salem Tabri police have booked Gagandeep Colony sarpanch Tarun Kumar and 32 others for allegedly barging into a man’s house, assaulting him and his family members, damaging household articles and a motorcycle, and threatening to kill them following a dispute over a sewerage manhole.

Besides Tarun Kumar, the named accused include panchayat member Manna, Raju, Ghai Baba, Gora, Bunty, alias Kalu, Shan, Lala, Gautam Varun, alias Sootar, Varun’s brother, Mani, Ganju, Sonu, alias Badam, Jaggi, Deepu, Pamma and Gautam’s brother Kaka, all residents of Gagandeep Colony. The remaining 15 accused are yet to be identified.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on August 21 when Tarun Kumar allegedly arrived at Gurjant Singh’s house along with his aides. The complainant alleged that the accused assaulted him and his family members and damaged household belongings and a motorcycle.

Gurjant told police that the alleged attack followed a dispute with Tarun Kumar over getting a sewerage manhole covered. He alleged that when he approached the sarpanch over the issue, Kumar abused him and later arrived at his house with others and attacked the family. The complainant further alleged that the accused also threatened to kill him and his family members.
