The six complainants had paid between 70,000 and 4.95 lakh each through bank transfers, online payment applications and cash. The total amount paid by the six candidates was 19 lakh.

The company representatives promised Merchant Navy jobs to the candidates and issued offer letters, guarantee documents and boarding letters after receiving the payments. When the candidates sought flight tickets and details of the vessels, where they were to join, the company representatives stopped responding to them.

The candidates later found that the documents provided to them contained invalid details and later visited the company’s office at Chandigarh City Centre on VIP Road, Zirakpur, but found it locked.

The candidates demanded a refund from the company. According to the complaints, the accused issued cheques to the candidates, but the banks returned the cheques unpaid after the accounts were blocked. The complainants also approached the accused for their money but received threats during the process.
