A 27-year-old woman from Ram Darbar has accused a 28-year-old Uttar Pradesh resident of sexually assaulting her for three years on the pretext of marriage.
Balongi police registered a case against Shashi, a resident of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh, under Sections 64(2)(m) and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to rape and criminal intimidation.
According to the complaint, the woman met Shashi while visiting relatives in Balongi in January 2023. He later contacted her through Instagram and allegedly promised to marry her. She said he called her to Balongi in April that year, where they first met.
She told police that he met her for the last time on July 16 this year and again promised to marry her. However, he allegedly left Mohali two days later.When the complainant contacted him about the marriage, he allegedly refused and threatened her.
Police said the complaint was initially registered as a zero FIR by Chandigarh Police before being transferred to Balongi as the alleged offences took place there. The accused is yet to be arrested.
