According to the ACB, the complainant alleged that his car had been impounded at the Sector 21 police post in connection with a case. Despite a written compromise between the two parties, the accused SI, Desh Raj, allegedly demanded 5,000 to release the vehicle.

Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB with an audio recording purportedly capturing the demand for the bribe.

The ACB verified the complaint and the audio recording, which prima facie confirmed the demand for illegal gratification. The ACB then laid a trap and caught the accused SI red-handed while allegedly accepting the 5,000 bribe from the complainant. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
