The district police arrested two wanted criminals associated with foreign-based gangster Sonu Khatri following an encounter in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nahar on Friday night.

The duo was identified as Ajayvir Singh of Urapar village in the district and Ajay of Jalandhar. Police recovered two .30 pistols and one .9mm Glock pistol from their possession.
Both accused, along with a police constable, were injured in a crossfire between the assailants and police.
SBS Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Tushar Gupta said the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) received a tip-off that the accused were out to kill a rival gang’s member. Acting on the information, CIA teams tracked their movement and intercepted them near Mussapur railway crossing.
“The accused were spotted riding a motorcycle and signalled to stop. But they attempted to flee by opening fire at the police party. In retaliation, police teams also opened fire at them. Two bullets hit both accused in their legs, while one police constable also suffered a gunshot injury in the leg,” the SSP said, adding that their accomplice Davinder Singh managed to flee.
Police said they were shifted to a hospital and remained under medical observation. A fresh case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act was registered against the accused.
