A two-year-old girl was killed after a speeding tempo ran over her outside a factory in the city on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place outside a steel factory, where the girl’s mother, Lovely Begum, worked making bicycle seats. She had brought her daughter (Mannat Parveen) to the workplace. According to the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, the child was playing inside the factory at around 2.30 pm when she suddenly came out. He alleged the accused tempo driver, Vikram Shah, a resident of Sunder Nagar, was driving at a high speed.

Police said CCTV footage showed the child stepping outside the factory before returning inside. Moments later, she ran towards the road again, resulting in the mishap.
Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead. Following the postmortem examination, the body was handed over to the family, who performed her last rites. On the father’s complaint, Division Number 6 police registered an FIR against Vikram Shah and arrested him.
ASI Ranbir Singh said officials were examining CCTV footage and other evidence.
