An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 hit Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district on Thursday morning, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) website said.

The earthquake occurred around 5 km beneath the earth’s surface at 6:15am.
The NCS is the nodal agency of the Centre under the earth sciences ministry for monitoring earthquake activity in the country on a 24X7 basis.

Uttarakhand has reported several minor earthquakes in the past month.
On May 8, an earthquake of magnitude 2.5 hit Bageshwar district.
On May 7, Pithoragarh district was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 2.1 and on May 5, earthquakes of magnitude 3.3 and 2.6 hit Chamoli and Tehri districts respectively.
Last month, an earthquake of magnitude 2.5 hit Pauri district on April 22.
