GMDA, HSIIDC to concretise Badshahpur Drain at 370cr

GMDA and HSIIDC plan to concretise a 6-km stretch of Badshahpur drain to improve stormwater management and reduce sewage overflow issues.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) plan to concretise a six-kilometer stretch of the Badshahpur drain, the city’s main stormwater outlet from Gadoli to the Najafgarh drain, officials said on Friday.

“HSIIDC will concretise a three-kilometer stretch, while GMDA is formulating a plan to concretise the remaining three kilometers,” said Vikram Singh, executive engineer at GMDA.

According to officials, HSIIDC has planned the concretisation in view of its Global City project along the Dwarka Expressway. The corporation has also planned to construct a load-bearing road on the drain, which would be utilised for vehicular traffic, officials added.

“HSIIDC has prepared an estimate of around 170 crore for the concretisation work and sought approval from GMDA,” said an official aware of the matter. Similarly, a GMDA consultant has also prepared a cost estimate of around 200 crore for the other 3-km segment and has submitted it to the GMDA for review, the official added.

GMDA officials added that concretising the drain will also ensure that illegal cuts can not be made easily to pump sewage water into the drain.

Badshahpur drain is the city’s crucial stormwater drain. Starting from the Ghata irrigation dam to Vatika Chowk on Sohna road, it is called the Khost Drain; thereafter, it is called the Badshahpur drain. It passes through Golf Course Extension Road, SPR, Hero Honda Chowk, Khandsa village and industrial area, Gadholi Khurd, and empties into the Najafgarh drain.
