Woman, her daughter injured after speeding car hits their scooter in Gurugram

A speeding car hit a scooter in Gurugram, critically injuring a mother and daughter. Police are investigating and have traced the vehicle's registration.

Gurugram: A 47-year-old woman and her 21-year-old daughter were critically injured after a speeding vehicle hit their two-wheeler near an underpass on Golf Course Road, police said on Thursday.

Police identified the two as Renu Bala and her daughter Priyanshi, both residents of Sector-23 (East pocket) in Palam Vihar. Bala was riding her scooter with Priyanshi in the back seat. The two were headed to their relative’s house in Sector-56 when the accident took place at 5.15pm on Sunday.

Bala told police that she was entering an underpass below the DLF Phase-I rapid metro station when a car rammed her scooter from the right while trying to overtake other vehicles in the lane. “I lost balance of the two-wheeler and fell on the road with my daughter, sustaining severe injuries,” she said.

Investigators said passersby carried the mother-daughter duo to the roadside and pulled away the damaged scooter. One of the passersby rushed the duo to the civil hospital in Sector-10A. Police were alerted about the accident by the hospital.

Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said police recorded Bala’s statement on Wednesday after receiving medical clearance from doctors. Afterward, they registered an FIR against the unidentified car driver under sections 125(a) (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at DLF Phase-I police station.

He added that the car number has been traced and the driver will be identified and arrested soon.
