A two-year-old panther strayed into a residential colony in Jaipur on Saturday, triggering panic among people.

The animal was safely tranquilised and no one was injured in the incident, police said.

The panther’s presence in the densely populated locality in Milap Nagar, which is not even close to any forest, caused considerable commotion in the area.

The animal was spotted early Saturday morning near Tonk road and police said it is supposed to have strayed from the Jhalana forest last night.

Police added the animal was then taken to Jaipur zoo for medical check-up.

Veterinary officer of the zoo, Dr Arvind Mathur said the large cat would be released in Sariska forest in Alwar after treatment.
