Twelve pilgrims were killed and six others were injured in a collision between a jeep and a truck on Tuesday in Nagaur district of Rajasthan, police said. Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot also offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
The incident occurred near Sri Balaji temple on Bikaner-Jodhpur highway. According to police, the victims, all residents of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh, were returning after offering prayers at Ramdevra temple near Pokhran when their jeep collided head-on with a truck.
Eight people died on the spot, and four others succumbed on the way to the hospital, police said.
“Twelve persons were killed and six others were injured in the accident. All are residents of Ujjain, MP,” Nagaur superintendent of police (SP) Abhijeet Singh said.
The Centre has approved an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident.
