: Stricter rules are now in place to get subsidised medicines from stores on the King George’s Medical University premises.
“We have started restricting the sale of medicines to patients who are not admitted to KGMU,” said Prof Vijay Kumar, in-charge of Hospital Revolving Fund that runs pharmacies on the KGMU campus.
A month ago, three persons, including a staffer, were arrested for selling medicines meant for KGMU patients in the open market. KGMU offers up to 70% discount on medicines. The STF is probing the case.
“Several measures have been introduced now,” said Prof Kumar.
Only persons with prescriptions carrying unique health identification (UHID) numbers and stamp of the doctor concerned, will be provided medicine from stores on the campus. All employees of the outlets are required to submit proceeds of the sale, within their two-three days, to the KGMU HRF office.
Also, pharmacists posted at the outlets must inform authorities concerned if stock of any medicine is low. They must maintain a counter-demand register at each outlet and mail a copy of the same to the HRF store. They should maintainan inventory of at least 10 days.
