The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) has uploaded a comprehensive list of all recognised secondary schools on its official website (https://upmsp.edu.in/) for the first time. Officials said the move is aimed at enhancing transparency and curbing academic malpractice.

According to UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh, the district-wise database includes details of over 29,000 affiliated institutions across all 75 districts. A total of 29,208 secondary schools have been listed. Of these, 10,295 are recognised up to the High School level, while 18,913 offer education up to the Intermediate level.

The board has also specified the subjects each Intermediate-level school is authorised to teach, aimed at improving accountability within the education system.

The development comes against the backdrop of widespread irregularities in the sector. In several districts, many schools continue to operate without official recognition. While these institutions conduct classes throughout the year, they often get their students’ examination forms processed through recognised schools.

Some Intermediate colleges have also been found admitting students in unauthorised subjects and relying on recognised schools for exam processing, affecting education quality.

Education experts welcomed the move, saying public access to the data would help parents make informed choices and deter dubious institutions. They added that regular updates and strict district-level enforcement would be crucial for its long-term impact.

Earlier, secondary education director Mahendra Dev and UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh had directed district inspectors of schools to take action against unauthorised institutions. However, enforcement remained weak in several districts.

With the list now public, parents can verify schools’ recognition status. Officials asserted that the initiative is expected to expose fraudulent institutions and improve transparency in the system.
