Samajwadi Party MPs on Thursday donated around ₹2,15,490 and two silver coins, collected during their recent protest in Parliament, at the historic Hanuman temple at Connaught Place in New Delhi. The amount was contributed by Members of Parliament from various parties over the past few days of the Monsoon Session. The MPs offered the money and coins to the deity and obtained a receipt for the donation. During the Monsoon Session, opposition parties demanded a debate on the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Akshay Yadav, the SP MP from Firozabad, said the donation box was originally brought to the Parliament complex as a symbol of protest against the alleged theft of contributions made for the Ram temple. “People have faith, so they started putting donations into it when they saw it,” he said. Yadav demanded a Special Investigation Team led by a sitting judge.
Speaking to the media in Delhi on Thursday, Dimple Yadav, SP MP from Mainpuri, said, “Offerings made at the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya have been stolen, and a land scam has taken place there. This issue has reached the masses, and people are deeply hurt.”
“BJP members kept trying to conceal this issue; the theft was exposed only after Samajwadi Party national president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav brought the matter to light,” she remarked.
