Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday sharply criticised the Centre’s move to fix a time limit for its response in Parliament on the student protests over the NEET paper leak, terming it “undemocratic”.
Speaking to the media in the Parliament complex in Delhi, Yadav said any reply delivered under such a constraint would not be a genuine answer but a “hollow statement.” He alleged that the BJP was not interested in providing accountability and was instead eager to conclude the ongoing session at the earliest.
“Responsibility and accountability are not discharged by any time constraint, but by the logic of duty,” Yadav said. He described the issue at hand as far more serious than a mere formality to satisfy curiosity, calling it a matter of “gross misconduct and intent will towards both God and man”.
“The country is not in the mood to listen to speeches,” the SP chief said. He alleged that the word “accountability” itself does not exist in the BJP’s dictionary, accusing the ruling party of treating democracy as “moneycracy” and relying on exploitation and repression.
