“During interrogation, two of the girl inmates, both aged 15 years, confessed to killing the 14-year-old girl. A case is being registered for murder on the complaint of the in-charge there, and correspondence has been initiated for a magisterial inquiry into the incident,” Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said.

The crime surfaced after CCTV footage revealed that three went inside the bathroom at the protection home, but only two came out, police said. The post-mortem report revealed ‘drowning’ as the reason for the girl’s death. So, it is suspected that the girl was forced into a water-filled bucket in the bathroom. There were no injury marks on her body, police added.

The accused girls revealed that they killed their co-inmate believing such an incident would lead to the closure of the protection home and their freedom, police sources claimed.
