Mumbai: The body of a 40-year-old man, missing for a week, was found floating in the underground water tank of a MHADA residential complex in Wadala (East) on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Suresh Tangavel Devendra, a resident of MHADA Building No. 5 in MMRDA Colony, Bhakti Park, had been reported missing by his family last Sunday. Around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, residents of MHADA Building No. 11 alerted the Mumbai Fire Brigade after noticing a foul smell coming from the underground tank. Following this, a team of fire personnel arrived at the spot and recovered the body, which was handed over to the police, who later sent it to Sion Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The police said they are examining the CCTV footage from the area to find out how he reached the spot and if anyone accompanied him. “ We suspect that Devendra may have accidentally fallen into the tank. We have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and have started investigating the matter,” a police officer said.
