CR adds 22 longer-rake services on CSMT-Khopoli corridor from today

The additional coaches will benefit commuters travelling between CSMT and stations including Ambarnath, Badlapur, Karjat and Khopoli

Mumbai: Starting today (August 15), commuters on the Central Railway’s CSMT-Khopoli corridor will get more room, with 22 suburban services being upgraded from 12-car to 15-car rakes. The move will take the number of 15-car services on the main line from 32 to 54, adding 25% carrying capacity to each upgraded train.

The additional coaches will benefit commuters travelling between CSMT and stations including Ambarnath, Badlapur, Karjat and Khopoli. Despite the upgrade, the total number of suburban services will remain unchanged at 1,820.

“Of the 22 upgraded services, four will operate during peak hours. Two will be morning peak services. The total number of suburban services will remain unchanged at 1,820 despite the conversion of the services to 15-car rakes. We intend to run 14-car services on the CSMT-Kasara North-East line in the near future,” said a CR official.

The two morning peak services are the Ambarnath-CSMT local departing Ambarnath at 8.27am and the Khopoli-Karjat local departing Khopoli at 10am. In the evening, the CSMT-Ambarnath local departing CSMT at 7.42pm and the CSMT-Karjat local departing at 7.50pm will run as 15-car services.

The CSMT-Ambarnath service will now originate from Dadar at 11.23pm and reach Ambarnath at 12.30am. The CSMT-Khopoli and CSMT-Ambarnath services have also been converted from slow to fast services.

The 15-car services will remain cancelled on Saturdays to allow Central Railway to carry out maintenance work.

Central Railway introduced its first 15-car suburban services in 2012, with 16 services. Six more were added in 2019, taking the total to 22. Ten services were upgraded in July 2026, taking the number to 32. The latest addition will take the total to 54.
