Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) board on Friday cleared funding proposals for a new elevated road stretch on the GT Road and a Hindon river embankment road, the officials said.

GDA officials said the board cleared a funding pattern for the proposed six-kilometre, six-lane river Hindon embankment road near Raj Nagar Extension.

GDA has proposed a four-lane elevated road from Ghanta Ghar to Bhatia Morh along the 2-km stretch of the Grand Trunk Road. Officials said the project is estimated to cost around ₹200.23 crore and is expected to take two years to complete after tenders are awarded.

“The project has been approved by the state and its funding will be in a ratio of 50:25:25 through a loan, the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund and the GDA. For its 50% share, the GDA will opt for a loan. A detailed project report will also be prepared soon. The project is planned to decongest the GT Road stretch,” said Vivek Mishra, secretary of GDA.

Ghaziabad already has a 10.3-km Hindon elevated road connecting Raj Nagar Extension with UP-Gate near the East Delhi border.

“The project will cost around ₹185 crore and will be funded in the same ratio (50:25:25). The new road will provide flood protection to the proposed international cricket stadium and the aerocity-themed township.It will also provide direct connectivity to these projects and also help commuters reach the upcoming Harnandipuram Township,” Mishra added.

Officials said once the DPR of the new embankment road is prepared, the project will require about three years to get complete.
