NOIDA: A “sacred pond” being developed in Noida’s Sorkha Jahidabad village, is expected to complete in next four months, officials said on Wednesday.

Notably, Pushkarini is a sacred pond built next to Hindu temples. These water reservoirs have stone steps on all sides and are used for holy rituals and temple needs . The ₹9.82-crore project aims to strengthen water conservation and create a green public space for locals, officials said. “The development is also to support water conservation and groundwater recharge,” said a Noida authority horticulture department official.

The construction and development work is progressing at the site. The project is significant because urbanisation and the loss of traditional water bodies have increased pressure on local water resources, officials said.

“The objective is to promote water conservation and environmental development in the area. The development is intended not merely as a beautification exercise but also to support water conservation and groundwater recharge,” said an official from civil department, Noida authority.

Officials said the villagers in the area will get a developed and attractive public place. The construction is being carried out in accordance with prescribed standards by the Noida authority.

According to the visual plan released by the authority, the development around the pond includes a landscaped water body, paved edges, fountains, pathways, seating areas and structures around the pond.
