Two members of the Myanmar-based Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA) have been arrested with weapons, ammunition, drugs, and cash along the India-Myanmar border in ethnic violence-hit Manipur’s Churachandpur, police said.
Chief minister N Biren Singh called the arrests a major breakthrough and said they underscored a transnational plot to destabilise Manipur and India. In a post on social media platform X, he said the seized weapons include AK 47, Insas, sniper, and M16 rifles. “...opium weighing about 2.5 kg, ₹4,86,500 cash and various other items were also recovered.”
He added the National Investigation Agency has taken up cases related to a “transnational conspiracy by Myanmar and Bangladesh-based leadership of terror outfits” to wage war against India by exploiting the unrest in Manipur. “Today’s apprehension of CKLA cadres and the recovery of weapons has yet again underscored a transnational plot aimed at destabilizing both Manipur and our nation,” he added.
