Azad Samaj Party and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan sustained a bullet wound on his waist and was rushed to a private hospital after unidentified car-borne assailants fired at him in Deoband town of Saharanpur district in western Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening, police said.
“The assailants were in a car and opened fire on Azad’s SUV. A bullet grazed his abdomen. He has been admitted to a hospital,” superintendent of police (City) Abimanyu Manglik said, according to a PTI report.
The incident took place at Gandhi Colony when Azad was returning in an SUV after attending a programme, police said.

According to the police, the assailants in a car having a Haryana numberplate approached Azad’s vehicle and opened fire, causing a bullet to pierce the metal of his SUV and inflict a wound on his waist.
Police said that the the assailants fled the spot amid the chaos caused by gunshots, adding that a search operation has been launched to nab the accused.
