An eye-witness, who works as a guard at a dhaba (food joint) on the National Highway, said that the constable was patrolling on foot when he noticed a few motorcycle riders who appeared suspicious. As the constable threw a flashlight at them to see their faces clearly, the riders abused the constable and sped in rage. Subsequently, the constable went after them on his motorcycle. He was unarmed.

Later, the cop’s body was found one kilometre away from his national highway post. According to forensic experts, the cop wrestled with the two accused before they killed him with a sharp weapon.

Police teams are now securing the CCTV footage to collect clues, said Raja. Meanwhile, eight police teams have been formed to identify the criminals. Special Task Force, Kanpur unit, is also looking into the case. ADG Kanpur zone Alok Singh, who is monitoring the operations in Jalaun, said, “We have got some important leads. The criminals involved in murder will be arrested soon.”
