Police said that the contractor suffered seven fractures and had to undergo multiple surgeries at a private hospital on Basai Road.

According to investigators, the incident took place on Friday night. The suspects assaulted the victim, identified as Pritam (32), with rods after dragging him out from the car.

Policesaid that two of the suspects were Pritam’s business rivals and they first threatened him to stop water supply to the condominium. However, when Pritam said that he had already received work orders for supplying water and refused to oblige, they assaulted him.

On Pritam’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the suspects under Section 34 (common intention), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Badshahpur police station on Friday night, said police.

The victim alleged that the suspects kept assaulting him until he fainted on the road. “I have suffered three fractures on the left and one on the right hand, one on the left leg and two on the right leg. It will take several months to recover,” he alleged.

Inspector Madan Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Badshahpur police station, said attempts are underway to arrest the suspects. “Rivalry in the water supply business was the root cause of the incident,” he added.
