PUNE: Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the death of a 28-year-old man following an assault last month, officials said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Tejas Sanas of Ambegaon Katraj. Police are searching for three of his accomplices.
The incident occurred around 2.30 am on December 25 near Nadbramha Idli outlet, close to Bharati Vidyapeeth gate. Police said Sanas and his associates intercepted Saurabh Shikhare, 28, of Ambegaon Khurd, who was with a friend, and assaulted him during an argument. Shikhare later collapsed and was admitted to a private hospital, where he died on December 28.
API Swapnil Patil said a case of accidental death was initially registered at Ambegaon police station.
“Subsequent investigation revealed the accused’s role in the assault leading to the victim’s death. He was arrested on Thursday and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” he said.
Police said the accused and the deceased knew each other, and an old dispute triggered the incident.
A case has been registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station under BNS Sections 105, 115(2), 352 and 3(5), and further probe is underway.
