FDA seizes dairy products worth 13.7 lakh in crackdown on food safety violations

Major action was taken at a dairy unit in Shirur taluka, where officials destroyed 12,278 litres of milk worth ₹5.28 lakh after preliminary tests indicated suspected adulteration. During the inspection, officials also found alleged use of caustic soda to reduce the acidity of milk.

Pune: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized and destroyed suspected adulterated milk and dairy products worth 13.71 lakh during a three-day special enforcement drive from June 26-28 across Pune and Solapur districts.

Major action was taken at a dairy unit in Shirur taluka, where officials destroyed 12,278 litres of milk worth 5.28 lakh after preliminary tests indicated suspected adulteration. During the inspection, officials also found alleged use of caustic soda to reduce the acidity of milk. The unit’s food licence has been suspended with immediate effect pending further action, they said.

According to officials, the FDA also suspended the licence of a dairy unit in Ambegaon after seizing dairy ingredients worth 1.48 lakh that were allegedly being processed in unhygienic conditions. In Solapur, officials destroyed sweets worth 6.91 lakh manufactured without a valid licence and disposed of milk found to be processed in unsanitary conditions at another collection centre.
