Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday in an even laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This includes three railway stations from the Pune division including Akurdi, Talegaon and Kolhapur stations.
The government is spending over ₹24,470 crore to redevelop 508 stations across the country and union territories. A total of ₹308.78 crore will be spent to redevelop 16 stations in Pune division. At least 1,309 stations were nominated for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and foundation stone was laid for 508 stations, which include 38 stations on Central Railways.
The inauguration was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. A formal event of this was held at Akurdi, Talegaon and Kolhapur stations.
Minister for Higher and Technical Education and Guardian Minister of Pune Chandrakant Patil was at Akurdi station along with other dignitaries. While, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Dhananjay Mahadik was at the event in Kolhapur. Similarly, at the Talegaon station, the event was attended by freedom fighter Balasaheb Jambhulkar and several other dignitaries.
“There are 508 railway stations which are being redeveloped to world class stations. In Maharashtra there are 44 stations and in Pune division we have 16 stations. On Sunday, a formal foundation stone laying event of three stations was carried out,” said Indu Rani Dubey, Pune divisional railway manager.

{{/usCountry}}The 16 stations in Pune Division include - Kolhapur, Hathkanangale, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Wathar, Lonand, Talegaon, Dehu Road, Akurdi, Chinchwad, Hadapsar, Uruli, Kedgaon, Baramati and Phaltan stations.
