Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has initiated a series of corrective measures and stricter monitoring mechanisms across its depots to improve the efficiency and reliability of public bus services, said Mahesh Awhad, recently appointed as chairman and managing director of PMPML.
A meeting of the board of directors has been scheduled on April 13 to review the current status and decide the future roadmap.
Over the past week, PMPML has intensified checks to ensure that all buses are properly inspected before leaving depots, particularly during early morning operations. “We are ensuring that all basic checks are carried out before buses depart and that drivers and conductors maintain proper conduct and courteous behaviour with passengers. Specific instructions have been issued in this regard,” he said.
He further stated that senior officials, including the chief transport manager, have been directed to remain on the field from as early as 5:30 am to oversee operations.
“Surprise inspections have been initiated, and their timing and locations are kept confidential. This has already started showing a positive impact, and we are beginning to see improvements in the system,” Awhad added.
Daily commuters have responded positively to these steps, but they have highlighted the need for consistent execution. “If these inspections continue regularly, it will certainly improve the service. Breakdowns and delays have been a common issue for us,” said Prashant Kulkarni, a commuter from Pimpri.
