Pune police have arrested the accused who allegedly raped a 36-year-old social worker from Uttar Pradesh at gunpoint in the city.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay Bajirao Bhosale, 52, of Uruli Kanchan.

According to the police, the incident happened on January 5 and the woman approached them on Sunday.

The police said that the complainant who hails from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh visited the city for naturopathy treatment at an institute based at Uruli Kanchan. She had opted for a one-month naturopathy programme and decided to rent a house. The woman came in contact with the accused and they visited many rental properties, but nothing was finalised.

The complainant along with the accused visited a rental property at a famous locality in Hadapsar where the latter allegedly raped her at gunpoint on January 5.

Arvind Gokule, senior inspector, Hadapsar police station, said, “Based on the complaint, we registered a case and arrested the accused.”
