PUNE: A 30-year-old man sustained a serious bullet injury to his thigh after a pistol allegedly discharged accidentally while being handled at Sai Siddhi Chowk in Ambegaon Pathar early on September 1, police said.

The Bharati Vidyapeeth police arrested Avinash Dadaso More, 19, a resident of Dattanagar, Dhankawadi, in connection with the incident. The injured man, Sunny alias Sandeep Subhash Deepak, a resident of Dhankawadi, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Another unidentified accused present during the incident is yet to be arrested.
Police said an unidentified person allegedly brought the pistol despite restrictions imposed under Section 37(1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act. The firearm was allegedly handled carelessly by More when it discharged, and the bullet hit Deepak in the thigh, causing serious injuries.
The police registered a case at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, including Sections 3(25), 27 and 35, and Sections 125(a)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), besides Sections 37(1)(3) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
