Lucknow Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate Sudhanshu Trivedi filed nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-polls on Friday.Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, ministers in the UP government, including Surya Pratap Shahi, Suresh Khanna, Ashutosh Tandon, Mahendra Singh, and senior party functionaries were present.
A PhD in mechanical engineering, Trivedi is national spokesperson of the BJP. He was information advisor to former chief minister Rajnath Singh and political advisor to Singh when he became national president of the BJP. He was member of the BJP high level committee for media and publicity campaign in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he was co-incharge of Rajasthan and member of BJP media and literature committee for the election campaign.
The by-poll was required after the demise of former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who was elected to the upper house from the state. Jaitley term was valid till April 2024.
