Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: BJP is looking to retain UP’s Robertsganj seat

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds the Robertsganj parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh’s eastern region or Purvanchal.

The ruling party won the Robertsganj Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 1989 and has bagged it four times since then. The Congress party has also been successful five times and has not managed to hold the seat after 1984.

Candidates of both the parties, the BJP and Congress, have made a hattrick on the Robertsganj seat in the past. Congress leader Ram Swaroop was elected in 1962, 1967 and 1971 and BJP leader Ram Shakal from 1996 to 1999.

Chakia, Ghorawal, Robertsganj, Obra and Duddhi, which are reserved for members Scheduled Tribes, assembly segments form the Robertsganj Lok Sabha seat. Brahmins and OBCs are key electorates in segments of Robertsganj and Ghorawal.
