Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Will BJP keep UP’s Mohanlalganj seat?

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.

The Mohanlalganj parliamentary constituency, reserved for members of Scheduled Castes, in Uttar Pradesh’s Awadh region is going to witness a multi-corner contest this Lok Sabha election.

The Samajwadi Party held the seat for four terms from 1998 to 2009 before being unseated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mohanlalganj. The BJP had a clean sweep in 2014 as it won 15 out of the total 17 parliamentary constituencies in Awadh region.

This year, the BJP will have something to worry about in the seat with the considerable influence of the Pasi community, the second largest Dalit caste after Jatavs in the state, as the SP-BSP alliance will pose a considerable challenge.
