Lok Sabha election 2019: Palghar constituency in Maharashtra

Palghar Lok Sabha constituency, one of Maharashtra’s 48 was created on February 19, 2008 as a part of a delimitation exercise.

The seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, held its first elections in 2009 and its first member of parliament (MP) was Baliram Sukur Jadhav of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Chintaman Vanaga of the Bharatiya Janata Party won this constituency. After his sudden demise, the Bharatiya Janata Party gave the ticket to Rajendra Gavit for by-elections.

Gavit, a former Congressman, won the by-poll while the Congress candidate Damodar Shingda, lost his security deposit as he failed to secure the minimum 6% of total votes polled.
