The Indian cricket Board would prefer a qualified candidate to take over as the India team coach, someone who holds a valid certificate after passing the certification/assessment programme conducted by a full-member country, it said in an advertisement on Wednesday seeking applications.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) using the word ‘preferred’ leaves the door open for both former India skippers Ravi Shashtri and Rahul Dravid and other former players who may not hold a formal coaching certificate.
According to the BCCI advertisement, the candidate should also have successfully coached a cricket team of any of the member countries of the ICC, at the first class or international level.
It has also made it clear that it is seeking a coach who can effectively convey his message to the players and demonstrates proficiency in English. Ability to communicate in Hindi and other regional Indian languages is desirable, it says.
“(He) should be able to prepare and present a coaching plan elaborating the approach for ‘Team India’ to attain leadership position in all formats of the game. “(He should) demonstrate methods/tools to effectively measure individual player performance and present metrics to the Board, which will in turn measure the performance of the team, on a consistent and timely basis.”

“It is mandatory that the candidate should have an impeccable personal record, devoid of any past or current disputes, with any of the member boards of the ICC or its affiliates”.
