Transferring the India-England tie out of Kolkata's Eden Gardens has left the cricket-frenzy fans fuming in the city. Its ripple effect however has lefty many a prospective spectator in chaos, half-way across the globe.
For many of the English spectators who had already booked their tickets to the February 27 tie, rescheduling their program to match that of their team is proving to be a hassle. For dedicated travel agents for sports however, it is a logistical nightmare. Gullivers Sports Travel is one such agency, which has already warned its customers of a refund if alternate measures do not work out. "Our tour packages are strictly according to our team's schedule of play. Although England's match against Ireland closely follows that against India in the same venue, arranging for accommodation and booking alternate flights is a mammoth task," an official with the travel agency told HT on Tuesday. The web-site of the agency has requested for a 24-hour wait.
Not many however have an agency bearing the burden of rescheduling, for them. For 25-year-old Christopher Lower, a student in Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University rearranging his families cricket itinerary is out of the question. "The web-site I used to book the four tickets still has Eden as the match venue. Where am I supposed to buy the new tickets from, let alone get a refund on the old ones?" he says even as he points out that the tickets to the only other match with him- England versus South Africa at Chennai- will have to suffice.
