So, the long-awaited call has been made after all. England head coach Brendon McCullum finally spoke to county head coaches and directors on a call and tried to clear the air regarding many decisions he made in recent months.

McCullum and the English team management have been accused of not giving new players chances, even though the national team hasn't been performing well over the last couple of years. They lost the Ashes, rather badly, earlier this year. Playing a home series against India last year, they drew the series 2-2.

India, with a bit of luck, could very well have beaten them, if truth be told. In the recently concluded T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, the team reached the semifinals, but that wasn't the ultimate target. It was to win. In 2022, McCullum was made the Test head coach, but last year he was also given the white-ball roles.

Earlier this week, Stokes had said something along the same lines, referring to the upcoming domestic season. "I hope they're giving themselves the best chance of coming up for selection when we get together to do that," Stokes said.

Mickey Arthur is satisfied for sure!

Derbyshire head coach Mickey Arthur, who won the 2017 Champions Trophy with Pakistan, expressed his satisfaction with the call. "I don't want to get involved in the actual contents of the call, to be honest, but it was a good call," Arthur said.

"We got some clarity on their aims and their ambitions, what their short-term goal is now and how they're looking to achieve it," he added.

The new county cricket season starts today, and a change in the attitude of people who matter at the ECB, rest assured, up-and-coming players will fight tooth and nail to leave a good impression on the selectors. England are scheduled to play Tests against New Zealand in June, and that gives many a big chance to stake a claim.
