After a string of poor outings, which include two ducks in the ODI series against Netherlands, England's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan could possibly call time on his cricketing career in the coming weeks. The development was first reported by The Guardian, a British daily on Sunday evening.
Morgan had not taken part in the third encounter against Netherlands due to a ‘groin injury’. However, the report mentioned that the England captain took part in a corporate match on Saturday. The 35-year-old was also set to take part in a charity event Chance to Shine at a school in Hackney but has withdrawn his name.
Morgan was recently backed by England's new red-ball captain Ben Stokes and swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler amid wide criticism over his poor form. In fact the skipper has also received support from Matthew Mott, the new white-ball head coach, and Rob Key, the director of England men’s cricket.
However, if we look at his recent performances, Morgan has managed just two half-centuries in his past 28 international innings in both T20Is and ODIs.

If Morgan does announce retirement in the coming days, he will hang his boots as England's only captain to win the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Morgan took charge as England's white-ball captain in 2015 and has went on to amass nearly 7,000 runs, which include 13 centuries in 225 ODIs. In the shortest format, the 35-year-old has amassed 2,500 runs from 115 T20s. He has also featured in 16 Tests between 2010 and 2012, and has two centuries under his name.
