Just six overs to go but Root is not leaving behind anything in hope to get another Pakistan wicket or two. He brings in Jofra Archer, who sends the first ball down at 87 miles an hour.

DRS saved Shan Masood in the previous over but not this time. Anderson gets the batsman for an eighth time in Tests as he goes back for 4. Pakistan jolted early at 6/1.

England declare, Pakistan to bat out 13 overs in the day
OUT! Shaheen Afridi clean bowls Stuart Broad and with that, England have declared their innings on 583/8. A dominant performance from England. The crux of that total revolved around Zak Crawley’s maiden Test century, which he converted into a handsome 267 and Jos Buttler’s second Test ton. Pakistan batsmen will have 13 overs to deal with... against Broad, Anderson, Archer and most probably even Woakes.

And still no declaration from England. Joe Root was spotted in his whites and a wicket should have signalled the end of the innings, but guess what, it’s not and England bat on. The 550 is up for England and the final 20 overs of the day remain.

Been quite the wait...
This is the first time in three years that England have scored 500 runs in an innings. Just a little while ago, Mohammad Rizwan seemed to have hurt his hand while collecting a throw from Shadab, but after receiving treatment, he seems to be back up and running.

Buttler in charge
With a crunching drive for a boundary, Jos Buttler has brought up his 150. He got to his hundred very early in the day and has since been on an even tempo. It’s also his highest First-Class score, and most remarkably he has been at the crease for over seven hours now. WOW! England inching towards 550.

We enter the final session of Day 2...
... which begins with Pakistan wasting a review. Rizwan loudly appealed for a caught behind of Buttler and after the on-field umpire turned it down, Azhar Ali took the review. As it turned out, the sound that excited Rizwan was the ball hitting the pad and not Buttler’s bat as he tried to paddle the ball. Next over, Chris Woakes cracks a couple of boundaries to bring up England’s 500.

England reach 490/5 (Crawley 267, Buttler 140*) at tea on Day 2 against Pakistan. Another session England would be happy with, while Pakistan would finally have something to show for their effort. Do not see England batting through this session. We’ll return in 20 minutes, stay tuned.

A wicket at last for Pakistan
OUT! Pakistan’s wait for a wicket ends as Zak Crawley is out stumped off the bowling of Asad Shafiq for 267. England lose their fifth wicket for 486. Came a little down the wicket but Asad had drifted down the leg. He was outside the crease and Rizwan had enough time to collect the ball and take off the bails. There will be no 300 for him at least in this Test match. But what an innings. It’s a shame there couldn’t be a crowd to applaud and cheer this knock from the 22-year-old.

Milestones keep coming for Crawley
With a nonchalant flick off Mohammad Abbas, Zak Crawley has brought up his 250. Yes, you read that right. And his strike rate is improving gradually. The partnership stands at 330 off 525 and it doesn’t look like England will be happy with anything less than 550 at the moment. Pakistan finally beginning to show signs of frustration. England motoring along nicely at 457/4.

England going for quick runs
It was only a matter of time before the big shots came out. We’re nearing the end of second session and England are well past 400 at the moment. The ideal thing will be to bat another couple of hours and expose a tired Pakistan batting against the pace trio of Broad, Anderson and Archer. Buttler is connecting them really well and even a Crawley has started playing shots like the reverse sweep. England 438/4 after 122 overs.

First six for Crawley
It took him 345 balls but Zak Crawley finally hits his first six of the innings. Came down the wicket to Yasir Shah and merely lifted the ball over the infield. The wind was strong enough to take the ball over the ropes even though a fielder was running towards it. Also, the 300-run partnership comes up between Crawley and Buttler.

England’s highest fifth-wicket stand in Tests
Crawley and Buttler have now added 272 runs for the fifth wicket, meaning this is England’s highest partnership for the particular wicket in Tests, surpassing the 254 added by Keith Fletcher and Tony Grieg against India in Mumbai during the 1972/73 Test series.

Zak Crawley scores his second boundary in four balls and with that converts his maiden Test ton into a double century, becomes the third youngest English batsman to score a double ton. What a fine knock by the 22-year-old batsman, who promises to go a long way for England.

We’re back for the second session of action in which England would be looking to score quick runs. Crawley starts the session with a beautiful cover drive off Naseem Shah - his 23rd four of this innings - as the partnership between him and Buttler crosses 250.

Lunch, England play out back-to-back wicketless sessions
England reach 373/4 (Crawley 186*, Buttler 113*) at lunch on Day 2 against Pakistan. This is the second straight session where England have not lost a wicket.

We have had rain halt play twice in the day already but Zak Crawley has faced 40 balls for 11 runs in the morning. Then again, it may seem a lot but just 15 overs have been bowled so far in the day as we near the lunch interval. England would have played out two wicketkess sessions if they bat through to the interval safely.

Well played, Jos Buttler
Century for Jos Buttler, his second in Tests, gets there off 189 balls. But it didn’t come without some drama. The ball before, on 99, there was a huge caught behind appeal and the umpire raised his finger. Thank goodness for DRS, which showed there was nothing as the ball passed the bat. Next ball, Buttler slapped it to point to bring up a much cherished ton. Remember, he came in when England were 127/4. Nothing working for Pakistan.

Back after second rain break
Ok, this is happening really quickly. The rain break did not last long and we are ready for play, yet again. Buttler approaching his second Test hundred (he’s nine runs away). Another 45 minutes to go for lunch and with the sun out, we should not have another rain break... not anytime soon at least. England resume at 336/4.

Oh no, it’s raining again
And just like that, the players race off the field due to another rain interval. However, the stoppage hasn’t lasted long and we’re set to have resumption in another 10 minutes. Well, that’s English weather for you.

We’re back
The session resumes. The weather has cleared up and looks a lot better. Mohammad Abbas completes his over with wicketkeeper Rizwan standing up close to the stumps. Straightaway there’s drama as Afridi appeals for an LBW but umpire Michael Gough declares it not out. Pakistan take the review at the last moment and end up losing it as the ball is clearly seen going over the stumps.

Rain has stopped play at the Ageas Bowl with England on 335/4. It’s raining heavily but it’s expected to be nothing more than a passing shower.

Crawley and Buttler taking their time to get their eyes in. It took 10 balls before the batsman put bat to ball. Abbas and Afridi bowled away from the stumps in the first two overs, but since have made the English batsmen play. They need to continue doing that else they’ll simply waste the shine away. The good news is that the weather is going to stay clear on Saturday. It is expected to remain cloudy mostly but the good thing is there are almost no chances of rain. For the second straight day, we are in with a chance of 90 overs being bowled.

England batters will look to take their side to a big total in the first innings and maybe give a few overs to the Pakistan team to bat in the evening. With Crawley and Buttler looking in good touch, a score of 600 is well in reach.

Mushtaq feels pitch is very flat
“It was quite tough. The weather played a huge role. The pitch was very flat, and the toss was vital on that pitch. And because the wind was there the whole day, it was very difficult for the bowlers to control their line and length consistently,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Ahmed as saying.

Crawley was nervous in his 90s
“When I was about 91, I was really nervous. Jos didn’t think I was, so I must have been hiding it pretty well. It was handy batting with Jos - he’s a very calm head and he’s always telling you to keep switched on. I think that’s why we managed to get a good partnership today,” he was quoted as saying by Skysports.
