England vs West Indies Highlights: England thrashed the West Indies by eight wickets as Joe Root’s century and lethal spells from pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood inspired the hosts on Friday. Root smashed 100 not out from 94 balls as England easily reached 213-2 after Archer’s 3-30 and Mark Wood’s 3-18 helped dismiss the West Indies for 212 in Southampton. Eoin Morgan hobbled from the field after having back muscle spasms in the 40th over. Making matters worse for England, Morgan was the second batsman to hobble off the field in the first innings. Big-hitting opener Jason Roy strained his left hamstring in the eighth over and didn’t return to the field. Roy wasn’t allowed to bat any higher than No. 7 as England chased 213 to win.

Jofra Archer dropped the ball short and the southpaw Oshane Thomas tried to defend the ball but missed it. Jos Buttler was confident that Thomas had edged it and asked for the DRS to come into play. Replays showed that there was no nick and Thomas survived.

Jofra Archer has done the trick for England as he picks two wickets in as many balls to get rid of Nicholas Pooran and Sheldon Cottrell. He was on a hat-trick but Oshane Thomas defended the ball well. Windies have lost eight wickets now and are on the verge of getting dismissed.

Mark Wood picks his second wicket of the day as he gets rid of Andre Russell for 21. The right-hander tried to clear the mid wicket ropes but was caught out in the deep by Chris Woakes. Windies have lost their sixth wicket as England are on top at the moment.

Andre Russell gets a lifeline (3) and this might just come back to haunt England. Russell top edged a Adil Rashid delivery in the air and Chris Woakes went running towards the ball at long-on but could not catch it. Russell then celebrates the dropped catch by hitting couple of huge sixes down the ground as Rashid concedes 14 in the over.

Wickets continue to fall on one end but Nicholas Pooran is holding his own on the other has he completes his half-century off 56 deliveries. This is Pooran’s maiden ODI fifty and he becomes the 10th WI cricketer to score a half-century against England in World Cup.

A fuller length delivery around off, Gayle goes for a mighty swing, gets a thickish outside edge and the ball flies to third-man, where Mark Wood was stationed.
