The academy was expected to open its doors within a year in the southern city of Chennai, the Times of India newspaper reported.
The academy would have an association with Hayden's Indian Premier League team, the Chennai Super Kings, and it was also looking for support from India batsman Rahul Dravid and former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. Hayden retired from international cricket in January, drawing stumps on a dazzling career as one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time.
